ABOUT US

The Oregon State Legislature established the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute (OCCRI) within the Department of Higher Education in 2007. OCCRI is a network of over 150 researchers at Oregon State University (OSU), the University of Oregon, Portland State University, Southern Oregon University, and affiliated federal and state labs. OCCRI is administered by OSU and resides in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. OCCRI was established under House Bill 3543 in the 2007 session of the Oregon State Legislature.

In addition, OCCRI is a host to a number of major projects and centers:

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Pacific Northwest Climate Impacts Research Consortium (CIRC) is one of 11 Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) projects. CIRC is engaging a broad number of stakeholders, including municipalities, utilities, emergency management organizations, irrigators, agricultural and Sea Grant extension, and state and federal agencies.

The Oregon State Climate Office, Oregon Climate Service, is an official ARSCO-recognized State Climate Office and participates in the American Association of State Climatologists. OCS provides Oregonians past and present weather and climate knowledge and information. OCS is a go-to source for government agencies, the media, and the general public.
